  • Mostly in electric vehicles the IP67 battery pack is used which tells that they are more resistant towards water and dust.

Electric cars are becoming the new normal now but still many misconceptions about Electric vehicles are persistent in minds of many peoples. We all know that electricity and water is a risky combination because of this so many misconceptions that how can we be safe in rainy weather from electrocute while travelling in it or how can we charge our cars in such kind of conditions. But one thing is for sure that these all things have came to the mind of manufacturers as well and they have already tried and tested cars already for these kind of complications and only thereafter, they have put these electric cars forth in the automobile industry for the automobile users.

Safety against water in Electric vehicles :

The battery packs which are used in the electric vehicle are having IP rating between IP65 or IP67 in them. The IP is ingress protection, it is a rating which is given to the battery packs, this digit representation shows the level of protection of these battery packs from dust and water, the higher the digit number, the higher the resistance from the water and dust. Mostly in electric vehicles the IP67 battery pack is used which tells that they are more resistant towards water and dust. Ingress protection 67 or IP67 tells that the electric vehicle having this battery pack can stay in water of one metre depth for 30 minutes or under this time period. There will not be any damage to the parts of electric vehicle. Similar to the ICE petrol vehicles these electric vehicles cannot stay for longer periods in contact with water, one have to be safe around the deep puddles filled with water or deep water bodies, in those conditions not even the ICE engine vehicle will survive then how can one imagine that Electric vehicle will survive and and if such condition arises then, this will result in costing big amount of money for repairing.

And another important question arises that during thunderstorms or lightening how safe an electric car is? Answer to this question is that you are safer in the electric cars then the outside because when lightening hits the car it strike on the roof of the electric car which is a metal body and as metals are good conductors of electricity so, when the lightening strikes the roof of the electric car then the metal conduct the electricity to the ground and keeps the passengers safe from lightening. Whenever lightening is there do not step out of car rather stay inside it until the lightening will stop, this way you will be more safe.
